As you can see, Medina Spirit gets the third post as he will look to make his way inside again in hopes to win the Preakness Stakes. He is the favorite at 9/5, but will have some tough competition on the outside as Concert Tour at 5/2 will look to start hot to catch the Kentucky Derby winner.
The odds will certainly change leading up to the race on Saturday, but let us look at the latest, per TVG.
2021 Preakness Odds
One of the best parts about horse racing is that the odds are ever-changing up until the race starts. As more and more money comes in, the odds will shift until minutes to post reaches 0, where the prices will lock. The opening odds for the Preakness were released nearly a week ago, and have since shifted. Let’s take a look at this odds movement leading up to the race this weekend.
Opening Odds
Here is a look at the opening odds for the 2021 Preakness Stakes.
Horse | Opening Odds to Win Preakness |
---|---|
Medina Spirit | +225 |
Concert Tour | +300 |
Mandaloun | +300 |
Caddo River | +550 |
O Besos | +800 |
Rombauer | +1000 |
Tarantino | +1600 |
Crowded Trade | +1600 |
France Go De Ina | +2500 |
Medina Spirit opened as the favorite, at +225. Right behind him was Concert Tour and Mandaloun, who were set to be the Kentucky Derby winner’s biggest competition.
Current Preakness Odds
Horse | Current Odds to Win Preakness |
Medina Spirit | +180 |
Concert Tour | +250 |
Midnight Bourbon | +500 |
Crowded Trade | +1000 |
Rombauer | +1200 |
Keepmeinmind | +1500 |
Unbridled Honor | +1500 |
Risk Taking | +1500 |
France Go De Ina | +2000 |
Ram | +3000 |
As you can tell, the odds moved slightly and there are some different horses in the field. Mandaloun is the most notable dropout along with Caddo River and O Besos. As far as the odds movement is concerned, it bodes well for Medina Spirit as he rose from +225 to +180 to win the Preakness Stakes. Concert Tour moved from +300 to +250, as well. A late entry is Midnight Bourbon, who is no slouch and gets +500 odds to win this weekend’s race.
The Preakness is Medina Spirit’s to win, given his wire-to-wire victory in the Kentucky Derby, as you can see below.
