The World Series is over and the betting world is already looking ahead to next season. Here’s how the 2021 World Series odds have opened from some of your favorite sportsbooks.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the co-favorites to win it all next year and they have all the pieces in place to make another run at it. Following the shortened season, they should be in good shape to repeat. Pitchers didn’t rack up the same amount of innings that they would in a normal season, so the residual effects of the World Series hangover should be lessened in 2021.
The New York Yankees were stopped by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series in 2020, but they are still the co-favorites to win the 2021 World Series. It makes sense given the fact that the Yankees still have Gerrit Cole. They still need to make some adjustments in the offseason to smooth out the rough edges, but they will be back in 2021.
The San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, and Tampa Bay Rays are all near the top of the board as well. The Padres surged to the forefront of baseball this year on the back of Fernando Tatis Jr. The Braves came within inches of beating the Dodgers in the NLCS. And the Rays could have easily been World Series champions in 2020 had a few things broke their way.
Next season is going to be a grind to the top.
Coming in with the worst chances to win the 2021 World Series are three bottom-feeders — the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, and Detroit Tigers. All three teams were major disappointments in 2020 and the expectation is that they won’t turn things around next season.
