  • The Alabama Crimson Tide are -16.5 against the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship Game. The total is set to 74 points.
  • Bama is 5-4 against Florida in SEC Championship Games.
  • Mac Jones and Kyle Trask are the two favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.
  • Alabama is beating teams by an average of 32.7 points per game.

The Alabama Crimson Tide (10-0) is looking to continue its ludicrous run this year in the SEC Championship Game and carry that momentum into the College Football Playoff. Following their shocking loss to LSU this past weekend, the Florida Gators (8-2) can only play spoiler. There is only one team in this game with dreams of a National Championship.

One interesting subplot to this game is the race for the Heisman Trophy. Alabama quarterback Mac Jones appears to have the inside track, but Kyle Trask is still within striking distance. A monster performance from Trask could be enough to tip the needle.

Alabama is -16.5 on the spread against Florida, but there are some sportsbooks where bettors can grab the Gators at as high as 17.5-point underdogs. The total is set to either 74 or 74.5 depending on where you look.

The Crimson Tide is dominant against the spread this year, compiling an 8-2 record on DraftKings Sportsbook. Meanwhile, the Gators are 4-5-1 against the spread in 2020. Even though both teams average more than 40 points per game, they are each only 6-4 on over-unders.

Game Preview and Betting Angles

Will the Gators have a letdown after their National Championship hopes went up in flames against LSU? It’s tough to predict, but it might not even matter. Alabama has been utterly dominant from the jump this year. They have won every single game by at least 15 points and they are winning by an average of 32.7 points per game. Yeah, that’s a real statistic.

It goes without saying, but the Gators have their work cut out for them. If they have any chance at knocking off the undefeated Crimson Tide, the Gators are going to need a monumental effort from Kyle Trask.

Alabama Game Notes

Let’s start with the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy — Mac Jones. Although the Crimson Tide is still as dangerous as ever on defense and in the ground game, Jones is a different breed of Bama quarterback. He’s completing 76.4% of his passes for 3,321 yards and 27 touchdowns against just three interceptions. He might be able to pick apart this suspect Florida defense.

In terms of weapons, Jones has an embarrassment of riches. If he’s not handing the ball off to Najee Harris, who has 22 rushing touchdowns this year, he is throwing it to Devonta Smith or John Metchie. Smith is already at 83 receptions, 1,327 yards, and 15 touchdowns on the season.

The offense is the flashy part of Alabama’s game, but the defense is just as dominant. They rank 11th in the country in scoring defense, allowing a measly 16.8 points per game. In today’s college game where offenses can put up 50 points without breaking a sweat, this is a massive accomplishment.

Florida Game Notes

Trask will be facing an uphill battle in keeping pace with Jones and Bama. On the bright side, he will have his favorite target — tight end Kyle Pitts — back in the lineup. Pitts missed last Saturday’s game against LSU due to lingering injury issues. All signs point to Pitts playing in the SEC Championship Game this Saturday.

The likely John Mackey Award winner and first-round pick already has 11 touchdowns in just seven games this year. When Pitts is on the field, the Gators are a different team. Kadarius Toney is another dangerous weapon at Trask’s disposal. The shifty wide receiver can beat teams over the top or cause havoc underneath.

The Gators are going to need to put up a ton of points if they have any hope of holding off the Crimson Tide. The Florida defense improved as the season went on, but their weaknesses were on full display against LSU. Alabama manhandled the Tigers one week earlier, winning 55-17.

Alabama vs. Florida History

This is a long and storied rivalry in the SEC despite the fact that these teams rarely play each other in the regular season. Alabama leads the all-time matchup 25-14 and they are on a six-game winning streak against the Gators overall.

In the SEC Championship Game, the Crimson Tide have won their last three meetings against the Gators. We have to go all the way back to Tim Tebow in 2008 for Florida’s last win over Alabama in Atlanta. Overall, Bama holds a 5-4 edge over Florida in SEC Championship Games.

Betting Picks and Score Prediction

Alabama might be able to put up 50 points in this game. The Bama offense is that good and the Florida defense is that inconsistent. We lean towards Alabama laying the points on the spread line, but that’s not the best play here. Take the over on the total points. Bama is going to put up points and the Gators are good enough on offense to keep pace for a little while. Long enough to cover that total, at the very least.

Score Prediction: Alabama wins 52-38
