Latest CFP Playoff Champion Odds: Ohio State Now Favored

Latest CFP Playoff Champion Odds: Ohio State Now Favored

Week 12 was a crazy one in college football, even if you followed SVP and his picks! Georgia held off Auburn on the final drive, Iowa State upset Texas, West Virginia upset Kansas State, undefeated Minnesota lost a tough one to the Iowa Hawkeyes to end their title hopes, and Oklahoma had a comeback for the ages and defeated Baylor 34-31.

Oddly, none of those were the most newsworthy in Week 12. In an unfortunate turn of events, Tua Tagovailoa seriously injured his hip and is out for the season, and likely has played his last snap for the University of Alabama.

From the sports betting point of view, of course that changes his Heisman Odds but Joe Burrow has made that a one-man race.

From the National Champions Futures Market point of view, it has changed everything.

Latest Odds To Win College Football National Title

DraftKings Sportsbook provided a chart that shows the top six programs in current odds to win the National Championship, compared to their odds last week (entering Week 12). Take a look.

Notable CFB National Champion Winner Odds Movements
Team Pre-Week 12 Current Odds
Ohio State +225 +200
Clemson +225 +225
LSU +275 +250
Georgia +1000 +900
Alabama +1200 +2000
Penn State +5000 +6600
Provided by DraftKings Sportsbook

Ohio State

THE Ohio State University, as so many alumni refer to the school as, is in sole possession of being the favorite to win the National Championship at +200 on DraftKings Sportsbook. They were +225 last week, but move into sole possession after Week 12.

Clemson

Clemson saw no movement in their odds, but fell to second behind Ohio State to win the National Championship. They are still +225, but likely have the easiest path of the top six given the schedule for the rest of the season. Clemson is a very talented football team though, hence why this is the first week all season that Clemson has not been the favorite to win the title. Until now, Clemson has always had the best odds to win the entire thing.

LSU

The LSU Tigers keep climbing the ladder, and are now +250 to win the National Championship. A convincing win over Alabama and a tough schedule to this point has proven the Tigers, their one drawback will be defensively as they continue to allow a ton of points. With that being said, they also continue to outscore everyone. Being in the SEC means they will have at least one more tough game before the playoffs, which is likely why the odds aren’t higher.

Alabama without Tua

How the mighty have fallen. Alabama only has one loss (to LSU), but the hard part about the college football playoff is there are only four teams. Alabama is amongst the most talented teams in the country, but they need to make the playoff first. After the Tua Tagovailoa injury, Alabama has fallen (again) from +1200 to +2000 to win the National Championship.

It looks like Ohio State, Clemson, and LSU will all likely finish in the playoff…so there is one spot left for Alabama, Georgia, Penn State, and others.

Colin Cowherd Blazing 5 Picks NFL Week 11 2019

Colin Cowherd Blazing 5 Picks NFL Week 11 2019

FoxSports’ Colin Cowherd has turned into quite the handicapper, for better or for worse. In what is called the “Blazing 5” segment on “The Herd”, Cowherd breaks down his favorite five games and makes five picks each week of the NFL season.

After starting out hot, Cowherd’s picks have come back to Earth. Entering Week 10, his record was 24-20-1.

Last week, Cowherd’s Blazing 5:

Carolina at Green Bay – Carolina (+4.5) – LOSS

NY Giants at NY Jets – NY Jets (+3) – WIN

Arizona at Tampa Bay – Arizona (+5) – WIN

LA Rams at Pittsburgh – LA Rams (-4) – LOSS

Seattle at San Francisco – San Francisco (-6.5) – LOSS

Cowherd went 2-3 last week, and is now inching towards .500. Cowherd nailed the Jets over the Giants call, discussing the Giants losing five in a row and the Jets being able to move the ball. The Jets won 34-27.

Cowherd Blazing 5 Record For 2019-2020 NFL Season

26-23-1

NFL Week 11 Colin Cowherd Blazing 5 Picks

Cowherd’s five NFL picks are:

  • Houston (+4) @ Baltimore – HOUSTON
  • Denver (+10.5) @ Minnesota – DENVER
  • New York Jets (+2) @ Washington – JETS
  • Arizona (+10) @ San Francisco – ARIZONA
  • Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers (+4) – CHARGERS

Cowherd likes five underdogs in Week 11, which is a serious “fade the public” move. Colin likes four road teams, with just one home team in the Chargers.

This is the second straight week that Cowherd has picked the Cardinals, Jets, and a 49ers game. Last week, he picked the Niners to cover 6.5 against Seattle, but this week he likes the Cardinals +10.

Cowherd Blazin’ 5 Pick by Pick Analysis

  • Houston (+4) @ Baltimore – HOUSTON

      • In the battle of two of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL, Cowherd likes Deshaun Watson to prevail over the dual-threat star Lamar Jackson.
      • The Ravens are coming off a 49-13 shellacking of the Bengals, but the Texans are coming off a bye.

  • Denver (+10.5) @ Minnesota – DENVER

      • 10.5 points is a lot of points, and given the Vikings’ obvious game plan of running the football it seems Cowherd likes a relatively low-scoring game.
      • Picking the Broncos in Minnesota is a bold one, but again…10.5 points is a lot.

  • New York Jets (+2) @ Washington – JETS

      • Cowherd likes the Jets AGAIN, after picking them successfully against a bad Giants team.
      • The Redskins are starting Dwayne Haskins, but do get Derrius Guice back.

  • Arizona (+10) @ San Francisco – ARIZONA

      • 10 points is a lot, but the 49ers roster is vastly superior in terms of talent.
      • The ARI offensive line will have their hands full with the Niners front, and that will decide the game straight up and against the spread.

  • Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers (+4) – CHARGERS

    • This is a bit of a shocker, after the struggles the Chargers have had with consistency.
    • The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes back after a full week of practice, as he’s getting healthier after the Chiefs loss to the Titans.
    • Kansas City has lost four of their last six games.

Colin Cowherd Blazing 5 Picks NFL Week 11 2019

Colin Cowherd Blazing 5 Picks NFL Week 10 2019

In a crazy turn of events this season, FoxSports’ Colin Cowherd has turned into quite the handicapper. In what is called the “Blazing 5” segment on “The Herd”, Cowherd breaks down his favorite five games and makes five picks each week of the NFL season.

Entering Week 8, Cowherd was 22-12-1 with his “Blazing 5” picks. Unfortunately a tough Week 8 resulted in a 1-4 record, and Cowherd entered Week 9 with a 23-16-1 record on the season…and then Week 9 happened…

Last week, Cowherd’s Blazing 5:

1. IND -1.5 @ PIT – LOSS
2. OAK -2.5 vs. DET – WIN
3. CLE -3.5 @ DEN – LOSS
4. GB -3.5 @ LAC – LOSS
5. NE -3 @ BAL – LOSS

Colin Cowherd Picks Record to Date 2019

24-20-1 YTD now for Colin. A 1-4 week certainly brings Cowherd back to Earth with his NFL selections.

NFL Week 10 Colin Cowherd Blazing 5 Picks

Cowherd’s five NFL picks for this week are:

  • Carolina at Green Bay – Carolina (+4.5)
  • NY Giants at NY Jets – NY Jets (+3)
  • Arizona at Tampa Bay – Arizona (+5)
  • LA Rams at Pittsburgh – LA Rams (-4)
  • Seattle at San Francisco – San Francisco (-6.5)

In Week 10, Cowherd has three of his five picks as road teams. He likes the Panthers on the road in Green Bay, the Cardinals at Tampa, and the Rams in Pittsburgh.

The only two home teams he likes in Week 10 are the 49ers and Jets, and the Jets take on the Giants, so it isn’t really a “road” game.

The Rams and Niners are the only two favorites Colin likes in his “Blazing 5”, with the Panthers, Jets, and Cardinals as underdogs.

Cowherd Blazin’ 5 Pick by Pick Analysis

  • Carolina at Green Bay – Carolina (+4.5)
      • After the Packers played horribly in Week 9, Colin goes against one of his picks last week and rolls with the Panthers.
  • NY Giants at NY Jets – NY Jets (+3)
      • The Battle for the Meadowlands is a battle between two bad football teams. Colin does not think the Giants can overcome their injuries to beat Adam Gase and the Jets.
  • Arizona at Tampa Bay – Arizona (+5)

      • Kyler Murray and the Cardinals have to score this week to beat the Bucs, and Colin believes that will certainly happen, taking the Cardinals +5.
  • LA Rams at Pittsburgh – LA Rams (-4)

      • The Rams will be a popular pick this week, as just four-point favorites against a lesser talented Steelers roster. With Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald on defense, and Sean McVay after a bye this line seems a bit low.

  • Seattle at San Francisco – San Francisco (-6.5)

    • The NFL’s last undefeated team stays undefeated after Week 10, per Cowherd.
    • San Francisco’s defense is one of the best, if not the best, in the NFL and the Niners have one of the league’s best offensive minds calling plays. Dangerous combination at home in Week 10

Scott Van Pelt Picks Week 11 College Football 2019

Scott Van Pelt Picks Week 11 College Football 2019

Each week, ESPN’s own Scott Van Pelt gives his favorite picks for College Football on SportsCenter, in a segment called Winner$.

Last week, SVP was 1-6 after breaking .500 in Week 9.

Record to Date

36-40

SVP Week 11 College Football Picks

SVP likes nine games this week, picking seven underdogs and two favorites. Let’s take a look:

  • Baylor at TCU – TCU (+2.5)
  • Connecticut at Cincinnati – UCONN (+35)
  • Notre Dame at Duke – Duke (+8)
  • Missouri at Georgia – Missouri (+16.5)
  • Iowa at Wisconsin – Wisconsin (-9.5)
  • Tennessee at Kentucky – Kentucky (-1)
  • Penn St at Minnesota – Minnesota (+6.5)
  • Wake Forest at Virginia Tech – Virginia Tech (+2)
  • Iowa St at Oklahoma – Iowa St (+14.5)

In Week 10, SVP likes seven underdogs, including four home dogs. TCU, Duke, Minnesota, and Virginia Tech are all home dogs.

The only favorites SVP likes are Kentucky at home against Tennessee, Wisconsin at home against the Hawkeyes.

This means that of his nine picks, three of them are road teams. He likes UCONN +35 at Duke, Missouri +16.5 at George, and Iowa State +14.5 at Oklahoma.

SVP Pick by Pick Analysis

  • Baylor at TCU – TCU (+2.5)
    • Baylor is undefeated, having beat up on a subpar schedule to date.
    • With a big game at home next week against Oklahoma, is Baylor overlooking TCU?
  • Connecticut at Cincinnati – UCONN (+35)
    • UCONN football is bad, BUT…
    • SVP is 1-0 in his career picking UCONN, and 35 is a lot of points.
  • Notre Dame at Duke – Duke (+8)
    • SVP opens his Winner$ segment by chanting Duke.
    • Notre Dame continues to be ranked in the top 15, despite losing twice and nearly going down to USC and Virginia Tech, both unranked.
  • Missouri at Georgia – Missouri (+16.5)
    • SVP mentions a post Gator hangover for the “dawgs”. Is Missouri’s talent enough along with 16.5 points?
  • Iowa at Wisconsin – Wisconsin (-9.5)
    • “Bucky will be live”, says SVP. Home B1G game is a big one for both programs
  • Tennessee at Kentucky – Kentucky (-1)
    • We wish this was basketball, but Kentucky at home in essentially a pick ‘em.
  • Penn St at Minnesota – Minnesota (+6.5)
    • One of the two games of the week results in the Gophers +6.5, per SVP.
    • Row the Boat!
  • Wake Forest at Virginia Tech – Virginia Tech (+2)
    • VTech nearly defeated Notre Dame last week, and gets a home game against a lesser talented Wake Forest club.
  • Iowa St at Oklahoma – Iowa St (+14.5)
    • Picking against Oklahoma at home is always bold, but 14.5 is a lot of points.

Kentucky Sports Betting is on the Agenda for 2020

Kentucky Sports Betting is on the Agenda for 2020

The state of Kentucky has yet to legalize, regulate, and offer sports betting, but that may change sooner rather than later in the Bluegrass State.

Over the last few years, lawmakers in Kentucky have explored and discussed legal sports betting, but have not yet moved to legislation. The state has become more informed via conferences, studies, and more but nothing has come of it yet.

Is 2020 The Year for Kentucky Sports Betting?

Via the River City News, the Interim Joint Committee on Licensing, Occupations, and Administrative Regulations recently met, and co-chairman of the committee Adam Koenig has hope for Kentucky Sports Betting in 2020. Koenig was the first to propose sports betting in legislation in 2019, and he is on record saying he will try again in 2020, which will be much easier.

In Kentucky, even years (2018, 2020, etc) means only the majority is needed for legislation, and Koenig said sports betting had more than 51% of the votes in 2019. Odd number years need at least 60% for approval. This is great news for Kentucky residents, as sports betting seems closer and closer.

The Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear is all in favor as well. He is quoted in saying:

“We talk about being competitive, other states are eating our lunch. It’s Tennessee that just authorized sports betting. It is Indiana that has leached money off of us. We already lose $550 million of tax revenue from what Kentuckians bet in our border states in casinos. It’s time for casino gaming, it’s time to treat fantasy sports for what they are, it’s time for sports betting, and we need to prepare for online poker, which is coming.”

Beshear makes a great point, as states that border Kentucky have casinos, sports betting, and more. West Virginia, Tennessee, and Indiana all have passed sports betting regulations. Additionally in West Virginia, Tennessee and Indiana you can already bet on sports on your mobile devices. All in all, West Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia, and Missouri either ahead of Kentucky or right there, meaning time is of the essence.

Fixed-Rate Betting on Horse Races

Another part of what is being proposed in the state of Kentucky is fixed-rate betting on horse racing. For those wondering, this means when a bettor places a bet on a horse at 5:1 odds, it would stay at 5:1 odds. Currently at most places (Kentucky included), the end result of the odds is what you get for horse racing, depending on certain factors such as bettors and volume on certain horses. It’s called “pari-mutuel” betting, which essentially means you are betting against others and the odds move until post. This is already in effect in New Jersey at DraftKings Sportsbook app.

Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer has asked Koenig to include fixed-rate betting on horse races in his sports betting legislation upon re-introduction in the 2020 session.

Times are changing in Kentucky, which is great news for gamblers in the Bluegrass State.
