Bears vs. Rams SNF Game Notes
We’ve been waiting all year for Sunday Night Football and it’s coming back with a bang. The Rams are going to be one of the most exciting teams in football with their revamped offense. Matthew Stafford has long been one of the most underrated quarterbacks in football. Swapping out Jared Goff for Stafford is going to open up the playbook for Rams head coach Sean McVay.
Stafford joins an offense with a top-notch line, solid running game, and weapons at receiver. Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp might not get the mainstream love that other wide receiver duos do, but they are both capable of taking over a game. Is this offense good enough to win a Super Bowl? We will have to wait and see.
With all that said, the Bears have a strong defense led by edge rusher Khalil Mack. Although he only finished with nine sacks last year, Mack is one of the best pass rushers in football without a doubt.
Expect the Rams to key in on him as he’s the one guy on this defense who can take over a game. Chicago finished 11th in total defense, 12th in passing defense, and 14th in scoring defense.
The big mismatch in this game is between the Rams defense and Bears offense. Remember how we called Khalil Mack “one” of the best pass rushers in football? Well, we can safely say that Aaron Donald is “the” best pass rusher in football. The defensive tackle is the best defender in the NFL. In fact, he is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and he’s won that award in three of the last four seasons.
The fact that he can generate push up the middle will give Andy Dalton fits all day long. Donald’s pressure could force Dalton, a non-mobile quarterback, to scramble and make plays off schedule.
Chicago might have better luck using the mobile rookie Justin Fields in this situation, but Bears head coach Matt Nagy is committing to Dalton all the same. Perhaps part of the reason for Nagy’s stubbornness is due to the fact that he promised Dalton the starting job when he signed.
Or, maybe Nagy is hesitant to put Fields out there against a top defense with one of the greatest defensive players of all time. Starting a fresh-faced rookie against Aaron Donald sounds like a recipe for disaster — even if the Chicago fans are clamoring for Fields.
Our Bears vs. Rams SNF Prediction
We are buying the hype on the Rams this year. This defense is good enough to make the Rams into a playoff team almost on their own. However, this Rams offense might be the best we’ve seen during the McVay era. Stafford is a massive upgrade over Jared Goff and the rest of the offense is loaded with talent.
As for the Bears, they are in an unusual situation. If Dalton struggles early, will Nagy feel the pressure and bring in Justin Fields? Sure, Chicago’s defense will keep them in games, but this is a tough matchup for the Bears as a team. Take the Rams laying the points at -7.
Prediction: Rams win 31-20
