NCAA Odds

The NCAA Tournament has been whittled down to just 16 teams. Despite the insanity that ensued in the first two rounds, the Gonzaga Bulldogs are still alive and they are still the favorite to win it all. This Gonzaga team is undefeated and taking the college basketball world by storm.

Bettors on William Hill Sportsbook are going all-in on Gonzaga as they are bringing in almost half of the total money wagered on championship futures. Let’s take a closer look at some of the numbers.

Is Gonzaga The Right Play?

The public loves the No. 1 seeds. Gonzaga (42%), Michigan (16%), and Baylor (15%) are bringing in almost three in every four dollars wagered on championship futures at William Hill Sportsbook. No. 5 Villanova and No. 4 Florida State are the only teams bringing in 5% of the total dollars wagered.

But this begs the question: Is Gonzaga the right play here for the value? Prior to the NCAA Tournament, Gonzaga was listed at +210 to win the title. The Bulldogs have been a favorite to win it all throughout the season and anyone jumping in on Gonzaga now will get them at a lower price.

With that said, Gonzaga has looked dominant all year long. Oklahoma played one of their best games of the year and still couldn’t manage to come within single digits of Mark Few’s squad. In fact, only one team — West Virginia — has managed to lose by single digits. Even though Gonzaga is only listed at +130, the longer you wait, the worse the price will get.

There’s value on the Baylor Bears as well. They won’t have to face Gonzaga until the championship game and Baylor’s biggest competition on their side of the bracket — Illinois — was upset by Loyola Chicago in the round of 32.
