The betting public believes that Saquon Barkley is going to take home the NFL’s rushing title for the first time in his career this year. The New York Giants superstar has posted 1,000-yard rushing totals in each of his first two years and led the NFL in yards from scrimmage during his rookie season.
One-quarter of the cash put down on rushing yards leader via DraftKings Sportsbook is on Barkley. More than one-fifth of the total tickets placed are on the Giant star as well. Currently, Barkley is sitting at +900 odds which is fourth among all running backs. Derrick Henry (+700), Nick Chubb (+800), and Ezekiel Elliott (+800) are all slight favorites over Barkley.
Henry led the NFL in rushing yards in 2019 and Elliott did so the year before. However, there’s reason to believe that Barkley could be due for his first NFL rushing title.
Is Saquon The Best Bet?
The Penn State product finished second behind Elliott in 2018, but there’s a major difference for both guys in 2020. Jason Garrett is taking over as offensive coordinator for the Giants after spending more than a decade with the Dallas Cowboys. He started off as the offensive coordinator before transitioning to head coach.
Barkley is one of the most dynamic pass-catchers out of the backfield in the NFL, but Garrett tends to use his running backs in the ground game. Although we can still expect to see plenty of Barkley in the passing game, he’ll likely be doing a lot of running between the tackles in 2020.
Whether or not Barkley can stay healthy will play a significant factor in his quest for a rushing title. He missed three games with a high ankle sprain in 2019 and even upon returning, it took him a couple of weeks to get back up to game speed.
