When it comes to betting on the NBA playoffs, there is no more valuable tool than checking what the public is wagering on. Seeing what the general public is betting can help sports bettors determine whether or not to fade the public, which has been a betting strategy as old as sports betting itself.
Thanks to DraftKings Sportsbook, this information is provided for us throughout the NBA playoffs. For tonight’s games, there are a few trends that are sticking out that are worth monitoring as you wager on the action.
Using our NBA public betting percentage page, let’s take a look at how sports bettors are betting for tonight’s four-game slate of NBA playoff basketball.
Sixers vs. Wizards Public Betting Consensus
For tonight’s Game 5 matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Washington Wizards, the betting public is not convinced that a sweep is coming as the Sixers are without Joel Embiid. Without Embiid in Game 4, the Wizards prevailed in the fourth quarter, and bettors seem to be hesitant to wager on Philadelphia. Here is the consensus:
|Team||Point Spread||Percentage of Handle||Percentage of Bets|
As you can see, bettors on the spread are not convinced on either side, which makes it hard to see where the public leans. Even looking at the moneyline, the Sixers only have 68% of the betting handle, which is not a high number given their price of -250. Bettors are not as convinced without Joel Embiid, and this number could drop as tip gets closer given the news about Embiid broke in the early afternoon.
A Sixers source tells me Joel Embiid’s availability from his meniscus tear may very well come down to pain tolerance going forward

Bet the Over in Hawks vs. Knicks – NBA Public Betting
While the public is not as convinced on the Sixers to sweep tonight, bettors are very confident for the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks total, as 87% of the betting handle and 82% of all bets are on the over 208. Here’s a full look.
|Team||Total Points||Percentage of Handle||Percentage of Bets|
|Atlanta Hawks||Over 208||87%||82%|
|New York Knicks||Under 208||13%||18%|
These are massive numbers on the over, as bettors believe that 208 points is just not enough for the Hawks and Knicks. In the first four games of this series, here is a look at the totals in each contest:
- Game 1 – 212
- Game 2 – 193
- Game 3 – 199
- Game 4 – 209
Is this a line to fade the public on? Given the totals in the other games, it seems quite likely that under 208 is a very real possibility. With that said, the Knicks offense has struggled in three of four games and could return back to the mean.
