Think about everyone you know. Can you name anyone that does not support or agree with legalized sports betting?
It all depends on the demographic.
In a Seton Hall Sports Poll, a total of 80% of people believe sports betting should be legal and approved. Only 16% of people believe sports betting should not be legal.
Making up the 80% is two groups. First, 55% of people believe and support the state-by-state process of sports betting legalization and regulation. The other 25% believe that sports betting should be a federal law, permitting sports betting in all 50 states.
Of the demographic saying sports betting should be legal in all states, 37% of the voters aged 18-29 believed it should be legal in all states, whereas only 14% of voters over the age of 60 agreed it should be legal in each state.
Collegiate and Professional Sports Betting
Of the total voters, 44% believed that sports betting should include both collegiate and professional sports. 35% believed just professional sports should be legal.
In this poll, 69% percent of voters aged 18-29 believed that both college and professional sports should be covered in sports betting. Only 23% of voters aged 60 or above agreed.
Home State Exclusion
One of the rules surrounding sports betting in the US is the exclusion of “home state” betting. This means a resident of Pennsylvania could not bet on Penn State at PA online sportsbook, regardless of where the game was being played.
Of those polled, just 32% agree with the rule that does not allow for home-state betting, on Penn State, etc.
