The 2020 NBA Draft is finally in the rearview and the night filled with drama, surprise picks, and trades. The draft itself doesn’t usually have a huge impact on NBA championship futures odds, but there was some movement following Wednesday’s draft. The 2020-21 NBA season is approaching fast.
Although they are still considered a legitimate title contender, the Golden State Warriors’ title hopes might be taking a massive hit. Despite drafting a potential star center in James Wiseman, news broke just before the draft that Klay Thompson suffered a significant leg injury while working out.
The future Hall of Famer missed the entirety of the 2019-20 season after tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals. Losing Thompson for another year would be devastating to Golden State’s chances at going back to the NBA Finals.
Latest Odds To Win NBA Title
The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the most active teams on draft night. Trading away Al Horford and his bloated contract was their biggest move of the night, but adding three-point shooting was the biggest story of the night for Philly fans. The Sixers flipped Josh Richardson for Seth Curry.
They also snagged Kentucky point guard Tyrese Maxey after he fell to 21 and grabbed sharpshooter Isaiah Joe in the second round. Philly desperately needed to add shooting and floor spacing on draft night and that’s exactly what Sixers president Daryl Morey did.
Even though they had a relatively quiet night, the Los Angeles Lakers are still the favorite to win it all at +350. The Lakers did not make any flashy moves on draft night, but they recently traded for Denis Schroder. And no matter what, when LeBron James and Anthony Davis are leading the way, the Lakers will always be a threat to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
