Cowherd NFL picks this week

FoxSports’ Colin Cowherd has become quite the polarizing handicapper, for better or worse. In what is called the “Blazing 5” segment on “The Herd”, Cowherd breaks down his favorite games and makes five picks each week of the NFL season. This week is no different, as Cowherd goes over his favorite picks.

After starting out hot, Cowherd has been up and down. Some bad beats, some good wins, some bad picks, and more. Last week wasn’t great for Cowherd, and he is lucky his bonus pick was a win to somewhat salvage the week.

Entering Week 15, his record was 36-32-2.

Last Week’s Cowherd’s Blazing 5:

  • Seattle Seahawks -6 @ Carolina PanthersPUSH
  • Chicago Bears +4.5 @ Green Bay PackersLOSS
  • Houston Texans +3.5 @ Tennessee TitansWIN
  • Oakland Raiders -6.5 vs. Jacksonville JaguarsLOSS
  • Los Angeles Rams -1 @ Dallas Cowboys – LOSS
  • BONUS PICK! Buffalo Bills +2 @ Pittsburgh Steelers – WIN

Cowherd went 2-3-1 last week, not great in Week 15, which dropped his record closer to .500, but it is over .500 overall entering Week 16.

Cowherd was way off on the Rams -1, as the Cowboys destroyed them. In addition, he missed on the Bears and Raiders, but did hit on the Texans and Bills as underdogs.

After a 4-1 week two weeks ago, this brought Cowherd back to Earth. He will need a good Week 16 to stay over .500.

NFL Week 16 Colin Cowherd Blazing 5 Picks

Cowherd’s Week 16 NFL picks are located below. His Blazing 5 Picks are released each week on Friday’s during his show.

Let’s look at Colin’s “Blazin’ 5” for Week 16:

  • Baltimore Ravens -9 @ Cleveland Browns
  • Miami Dolphins +1 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
  • New York Jets +3 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Dallas Cowboys -2 @ Philadelphia Eagles
  • Kansas City Chiefs -6 @ Chicago Bears

In Week 16, Cowherd likes two underdogs and three favorites. That is relatively rare, as the Blazin’ 5 is usually full of dogs. The underdogs in the Blazin’ 5 this week are the Dolphins +1, and the Jets +3. Two bad teams, but against teams that may be bad or worse, per Cowherd.

The favorites are the Ravens -9, the Cowboys -2, and the Chiefs -6. All three teams are, or would, head to the playoffs with a win and all three teams have the superior talent in this week’s matchups.

Cowherd likes three road teams this week, and all three of them are road favorites in the Ravens -9, the Cowboys -2, and the Chiefs -6.

The two home teams in the Blazin’ 5 are the Dolphins +1 and the Jets +3.

Cowherd loves the Ravens this week. Of course they have Lamar Jackson, but Colin loves the Ravens defense with Marcus Peters and company playing very well of late. “Cleveland is a team that allows you to run the football”, says Cowherd. That is a dangerous thing to allow against the Ravens. This is the first pick in his Blazin’ 5 this week.

The Blazin’ 5 has a winning record in 10 of 15 weeks so far this season, and is still above .500.

Week 16 will be key, with just two weeks left in the regular season and Week 17 is always a crazy one with some teams resting players each year.

Cowherd Blazin’ 5 Pick by Pick Analysis

Baltimore Ravens -9 @ Cleveland Browns

Picking road favorites is always dangerous, but this is clearly a different scenario. The Ravens, are arguably the best team in the NFL (favored to win 2020 Super Bowl), and the Browns are amongst the worst-coached, per Cowherd. The Ravens have the advantage in all three facets of the game, making the -9 easy for Cowherd.

Miami Dolphins +1 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Cowherd mentioned the Dolphins are 7-3 in their last 10 games against the spread, which makes this game very attractive as a home underdog against a poor Bengals team. This is two of the worst teams in the NFL, but Miami has definitely been the better team in the last few weeks and with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center.

New York Jets +3 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

With the third pick of the “Blazin’ 5”, the Jets as a home dog are the play per Cowherd. He mentions that Duck Hodges has more interceptions than touchdowns since becoming the starter, and the Steelers offense has been deeply exposed. Cowherd expresses his support for Sam Darnold and takes the Jets at home +3.

Dallas Cowboys -2 @ Philadelphia Eagles

Despite all the love for Carson Wentz this week, Cowherd still has the Cowboys -2, but mentions he would not take it if it was -3. With a close game expected, Cowherd believes the Cowboys will run the football and maintain possession. This will be, Cowherd says, tough for the Eagles as they cannot score over the top which is hard to play from behind in the NFL.

Kansas City Chiefs -6 @ Chicago Bears

As Cowherd said, “What are the Bears playing for?”.

At this point in the season, you can exploit teams that do not have anything to play for but looking from afar the Chiefs are -6 on the road. Being a favorite under a touchdown is what attracts Cowherd to this pick, as he has faith in the Chiefs to score and touches on how good the Kansas City defense has been of late.
