FanDuel Illinois Sportsbook is moving into Illinois sooner than expected. According to reports, FanDuel is linking up with Par-A-Dice Casino in East Peoria. This partnership will allow FanDuel Sportsbook to launch its mobile sports betting app in Illinois. This is the second partnership deal that FanDuel has inked in Illinois, the first being a deal with Fairmount Park, which is located in Collinsville.
Par-A-Dice Casino has yet to file a request to begin sports betting with the Illinois Gaming Board, but we can expect the group to do so soon. East Peoria is located approximately three hours outside of Chicago, where much of the population in Illinois lives. That’s far closer than Fairmount Park, which is just under five hours from Chicago by car.
Initially, FanDuel and DraftKings were going to have to wait 18 months to launch operations in Illinois due to a “penalty box” provision, but both sportsbooks have struck partnership deals to circumvent that provision. The catch here is that this changes the way they can market themselves in the state.
Illinois Sports Betting Removes In-Person Registration
In-person registration was one of the biggest drawbacks of sports betting in Illinois, but Governor J.B. Pritzker recently lifted the requirement until Sept. 19, 2020. That means bettors have less than a month to sign up for FanDuel Sportsbook’s app before the state goes back to in-person registration.
For the time being, bettors don’t have to drive out to physical casino locations to register for mobile sports betting. On the bright side, this registration can sometimes be done from the comfort and safety of your car, but after Sept. 19, you will need to travel to a retail sportsbook to register for mobile sports betting.
Although we’ve seen Gov. Pritzker flip flop on this issue multiple times, bettors should take advantage of this window of opportunity while they can. It’s very possible that Illinois does away with in-person registration completely, but it’s not wise to bank on that. Sign up with FanDuel remotely today and avoid the hassle of driving out to a physical location to register in the future.
