The NBA Draft is a growing betting market that has increased in popularity in the last few seasons, as the legal sports betting space has grown. The most wagered on prop for this market is certainly the first overall pick, and our friends at BetMGM have already released their opening odds for the 2021 NBA Draft.
Here is a look at the opening odds for the 2021 NBA Draft betting market, focusing around the first overall pick. Will it be Cade Cunningham? What about Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs? Let’s take a look, with odds from BetMGM.
NBA Draft First Pick Odds
With the NBA season coming to a close, the focus for some NBA bettors for futures has become the NBA Draft betting market. At BetMGM, opening odds to be selected first overall in the NBA Draft have been posted. Let’s take a look.
Odds are courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook.
|Player||Odds to be First Overall Pick|
|Cade Cunningham||-500 at BetMGM|
To no one’s surprise, Cade Cunningham is the heavy favorite at -500, but one player to watch is former Gonzaga superstar Jalen Suggs. After a terrific NCAA Tournament highlighted by a memorable shot, Suggs will be a sought-after player in the NBA Draft process. Keep an eye on the odds, as Suggs opened at +800 at BetMGM.
Will Cade Cunningham be the first overall pick?
If the opening odds are any indication, Cunningham is surely the favorite to be the first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He opened as a -500 favorite, and has been the default selection amongst basketball fans since the college basketball season began, and certainly throughout the season.
Cunningham may not be as athletic as Jalen Suggs or others in the draft, but as a complete player he is ready to step in right away. Cunningham is ready for the NBA and will help a young team such as the Rockets pivot towards rebuilding for a chance at the NBA Finals, eventually.
Opening at -500, BetMGM certainly has Cunningham as the favorite to be picked first. Keep an eye on the odds movement throughout the draft process though, as this betting market changes all the time.
Jalen Suggs First Overall Pick Odds
Suggs is without a doubt the most polarizing “longshot” for the first overall pick. He opened at +800 to be selected first, and may be the player that most NBA teams want over Cunningham given the sheer athleticism and defensive prowess. In addition, Suggs really stepped up in the tournament as both a ball handler and defender. At +800, he is a bargain as these odds will likely move quite a bit leading up to the NBA Draft.
In some mock drafts across the internet, Suggs has gone as high as one, but as low as four after Cunningham, Kuminga, and Mobley. As the NBA Draft gets closer, expect to see Suggs’ odds vary at different sportsbooks. Getting him at +800 is a great ticket to hold at this time.
Cade Cunningham -500
Jalen Suggs +800
Evan Mobley +800
Jonathan Kuminga 10-1
