The two teams with the most SEC Championship Game appearances all-time will meet in the 2020 version of the big game — Alabama and Florida. These two college football powerhouses last met in 2016 and 2020 will represent the 10th time the Crimson Tide (9-0) and the Gators (8-1) met in the SEC Championship Game.
Despite the fact that Florida is ranked sixth in the country, they open as massive underdogs against No. 1 Alabama. The undefeated Crimson Tide have won every game they have played this season by 15 points or more. The Gators, on the other hand, have a loss to No. 5 Texas A&M on their resumé.
The winner of this game is a shoo-in for the College Football Playoff. Alabama is the odds-on favorite to win the National Championship and they might be able to sneak in with a close loss, but the Gators have no path to the College Football Playoff without a win.
But before we get to the SEC Championship Game, both teams have one more regular-season game left on the schedule. The Gators will host LSU (3-5), who has fallen off dramatically after last year’s championship. Bama will travel to Arkansas (3-6) to wrap up their regular-season slate of games.
Here are the current SEC Championship Game odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
SEC Championship Game Odds
Florida +14.5 (-117)
Alabama -14.5 (-104)
Heisman Trophy Game?
Alabama might be the heavy favorite entering this game, but Florida has the high-powered offense that should be able to keep pace with Nick Saban’s squad. Gators quarterback Kyle Trask is neck and neck in the Heisman Trophy race with Bama’s Mac Jones. In fact, this game could be the deciding factor in who wins the Heisman Trophy.
Trask has put up better numbers than Jones this year, but Alabama’s overall dominance is giving Jones the slight edge according to oddsmakers. Not only could this SEC Championship Game decide the fate of the College Football Playoff, but it will also be the tipping point in the Heisman Trophy race.
