DraftKings Sportsbook believes that MLB’s strikeout crown will run through New York. Gerrit Cole (+450) of the Yankees and Mets ace Jacob deGrom (+525) are the two favorites to lead the majors in strikeouts in the 2021 season.

This should come as no surprise given the fact that Cole was MLB’s strikeout king in 2019 and runner-up in 2018. Cole finished with a respectable 94 punch-outs in 2020.

As for deGrom, he has led the National League in strikeouts for two consecutive seasons. In fact, deGrom has either led or finished second in strikeouts in four consecutive years in the NL. The two-time Cy Young winner has recorded 867 strikeouts in 107 games and 609.1 innings of work over his last four seasons.

Here is the full breakdown of strikeout MLB futures odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

DraftKings Strikeout Leader Futures Odds

Shane Bieber (+650), Trevor Bauer (+800), and Lucas Giolito (+800) round out the top-five favorites here, but those are three pitchers bettors will want to stay away from. Bieber and Giolito finished 1-2 in strikeouts in the AL during the shortened 2020 season. Meanwhile, Bauer was second only to deGrom in the NL.

But this year is going to be much more difficult for all three guys. Bieber, Bauer, and Giolito were all pitching against the AL and NL Central last year. It just so happens that those were the two worst divisions in MLB by far. That won’t be the case in 2021.

There are also two San Diego Padres who fall into the top 10 here. The Padres acquired Yu Darvish from the Chicago Cubs in the offseason and he joins a rotation that already has Dinelson Lamet. Lamet has recorded 337 strikeouts in just 256.1 innings in his career, but staying on the field has been a problem for the fireballer.

Gerrit Cole +450
