The NFL playoff picture is beginning to take shape and heading into Week 9, there are still plenty of teams in the hunt. Remember, this year is the first season where the NFL will have seven teams make the playoffs in each conference.

That means securing that No. 1 seed in each conference is even more important than in past years. Which teams can grab the bye and secure homefield advantage throughout the playoffs is going to be a huge factor in who makes a run at the Super Bowl.

AFC Playoff Picture

To hammer home the importance of that top seed in each conference, look no further than the AFC North. The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a come-from-behind victory in Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens. As a result, the 7-0 Steelers tighten their grasp on the top spot in the conference and remain the only undefeated team in football.

Conversely, the Ravens drop to 5-2 and are currently in line to go on the road to play the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card Round. Of course, a lot can change between now and the end of the season, but the Ravens are facing an uphill battle.

NFC Playoff Picture

On the other side of the bracket, the NFC West is dominating the field. Three NFC West teams are in the current playoff picture and the San Francisco 49ers are just one game out. The Seattle Seahawks hold that coveted bye right now while the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams have byes.

The putrid NFC East will get a home game and it looks like the Philadelphia Eagles are starting to pull away in that division. The Eagles (3-4-1) have a slim lead over the second-place Washington Football Team (2-5). But Philly is on a two-game winning streak and they are 2-1 in the division so far.

There is still so much time left before the playoffs. We are approximately halfway through the season, so we expect to see things change quite a bit before the 2020 season is over.
