Jets – Patriots Odds MNF Week 9

The Jets are +7.5 on the spread line and +280 on the moneyline. Seeing New York as a two-score underdog is becoming a weekly occurrence. Patriots backers can snag them at -7 on DraftKings Sportsbook.

The total is set to 41.5 on PointsBet Sportsbook, but it’s at 42.5 on BetMGM Sportsbook. Our advice to bettors who are considering taking the over or the under is to keep an eye on the odds at different books. Depending on how the rest of the week goes, this line could continue moving in opposite directions.

Game Preview & Betting Angles

The Jets offense has been historically bad this season despite the fact that Adam Gase was billed as an “offensive genius” when he was hired. They rank dead last in total offense (259.0 yards per game) and scoring offense (11.8 points per game), but that doesn’t even paint the full picture of how bad Gase’s offense has been in 2020. The Jets trail the 31st team in the NFL — the New York Giants — by 6.2 points per game.

Although it hasn’t mattered who is under center for the Jets, Sam Darnold should be able to play on Monday. He’s been dealing with shoulder issues this season, but Gase and the Jets feel good about his chances of playing on Monday.

Gase gave up playcalling duties for the first time in his Jets tenure in Week 7, but that hasn’t helped fix any of the issues. Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has had some success in first halves, but once adjustments are made at halftime, the Jets tend to fold.

The Patriots are Super Bowl contenders year in and year out, but 2020 is different. New England’s offense is struggling after transitioning from Tom Brady to Cam Newton. Of course, none of the Patriots issues are even close to what the Jets are going through, but they are struggling all the same.

With that said, the Jets seem to be the perfect team to build some momentum and start to turn the season around. The Patriots’ 29th-ranked scoring offense might be due for a big night. The Jets could be without their best defender, defensive lineman Quinnen Williams. The second-year lineman is dealing with a hamstring injury. If he’s not available, the interior of the defense becomes much softer. That’s something the Patriots can take advantage of with Newton.

The Patriots stood pat at the trade deadline and kept Stephon Gilmore. That’s going to make life even more difficult on Darnold or whoever the Jets decide to go with at quarterback. The defense is not the main problem in New England this year. They don’t have the same edge as a typical Bill Belichick-led defense, but they have not been awful.

The Jets have only covered one time in seven games this season. In fact, they have lost every game except one by two scores. During his tenure with the Jets, Gase has more losses by 20 points than he does wins. The Patriots are 3-4 against the spread in 2020.

Betting Picks & Score Prediction

Anyone who is consistently betting against the Jets is making a boatload of money this season. The Jets have only been competitive in one or two games this season. Sure, the Patriots are having a down year, but we’re talking apples and oranges here.

Take the Patriots laying the points because it’s hard to envision the Jets turning this thing around as long as Adam Gase is the head coach in East Rutherford. Stay away from the total points in this one.

Final Score Prediction: Patriots win 23-6
