Patrick Mahomes won a league MVP in his second season, was named cover athlete for EA Sports’ Madden NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV in his third year in the league.

Could history repeat itself in 2020-2021?

After being named Most Valuable Player for the 2019-2020 season, Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson revealed that he will be the newest member of the Madden cover club:

Ravens Super Bowl Odds 2021

If you’re looking to follow the trend set by Mahomes last year, the Ravens’ Super Bowl odds have been posted at DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, and BetMGM Sportsbook.

DK and FD Sportsbook have Baltimore at +700 to win Super Bowl LV in Tampa Bay. BetMGM also has Baltimore at 7/1.

Madden Cover Curse?

Even those the Madden cover carried a “legendary” curse throughout history, Jackson says after Mahomes turned it around last year, he hopes “that curse” continues…

After Mahomes landed the 2020 cover, here is the list of athletes over the previous five seasons:

  1. 2019 – Antonio Brown
  2. 2018 – Tom Brady
  3. 2017 – Rob Gronkowski
  4. 2016 – Odell Beckham Jr
  5. 2015 – Richard Sherman

While Brown may be out of the league, he still performed notably well in 2018-2019. Of those five athletes, Gronkowski was the only one whose season totals suffered, primarily due to multiple injuries.

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are slated to pick 28th in Thursday’s upcoming first round of the NFL Draft.
