DraftKings Sportsbook has revealed the odds for MLB’s 2021 leader in home runs, and two superstars are tied for the top spot.
Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and Pete Alonso of the New York Mets are both +1000 to achieve the prestigious honor. Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers is right behind them at +1100, while Bryce Harper and Aaron Judge round out the list at +2000.
Trout hit 17 home runs in 2020’s abbreviated 60-game season, while Alonso smashed 16 of his own.
3 Value Picks To Lead MLB in HR’s
The 2020 MLB leader in home runs — Yankees first baseman Luke Voit (22) — isn’t on the above list but is +2800 to lead the majors once again. Voit’s odds possess significant value, so wagering on him to take home the crown may be the move to make.
Another decent value pick could be Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox, who isn’t on the aforementioned list but is +3000 to lead the majors in this statistical category. Abreu hit 19 in 60 games last year, which was second in MLB behind Voit.
Dodgers superstar Cody Bellinger also endured on-field issues last season (hitting just 12 home runs) but could still be a good value pick for this bet. He carries +1300 odds after hitting 47 home runs (fourth in the majors) just two seasons ago.
My Pick – Pete Alonso at 10/1 Odds
Alonso was the home run king back during the 2019 campaign, hitting 53 out of the park in what was his rookie season in the major leagues. It was a Mets single-season franchise record and an MLB record for rookies. Judge previously hit 52 as a rookie in 2017.
You could argue Alonso struggled last season, but it was a weird campaign for everyone amid the shortened season impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With a full season planned for this year, look for the Polar Bear to return to his 2019 form and hopefully lead the Mets to their first playoff berth since 2016.
Thirty-five players are currently listed for this player futures bet on DraftKings Sportsbook, and you could also wager on other futures bets such as the MVP and Cy Young winner for either league, hits leader, runs leader, saves leader, and much more.
