There’s no blueprint for bettors going into the 2020 MLB season. There have been shortened seasons in the past, but nothing like the 60-game season that is coming down the pike. The outbreak of coronavirus and tense labor negotiations put the 2020 season in jeopardy, but we will have baseball after all.

Betting on win totals in this shortened season will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Tommy Lasorda always said that every team is going to win one-third of its games and lose one-third. I guess in this shortened season that means each team will have 20 games to make their mark. PointsBet Sportsbook was first to post win totals for every MLB team.

Like they are in World Series odds, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees are leading the pack. The Houston Astros are nipping at their heels, but those three teams stand above the rest.

There’s value in mid-level teams like the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. Although it looks like they will have to contend with American League East foes like the Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, the Phillies and Mets only need to finish a few games above .500 to hit their win totals.

Young teams like the Toronto Blue Jays could be worth the risk as well. If young sluggers like Vlad Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette continue to develop into stars, the Blue Jays will likely finish at or around .500.

There are plenty of options for bettors entering the 2020 season.
