First things first, you might notice that the Houston Rockets are not currently listed. That should not come as a shock to anyone given the odd circumstances that are unfolding in Houston. James Harden and/or Russell Westbrook could be playing for a different team on opening night. For that reason alone, it’s tough to set an accurate win total for the Rockets.
But moving past the absent Rockets, the top of the list is filled with the usual suspects. The Milwaukee Bucks have finished with the best record in the NBA the last two seasons. They are sitting at 49 wins right now, but they are trailed closely by the Los Angeles squads. The Lakers and Clippers are set at 48 and 47 wins, respectively. These three teams are also the top three favorites to win the 2021 NBA Finals.
The Lakers are an interesting bet here. After winning the 2020 NBA Finals, it’s unclear how fast the Lakers, and more specifically LeBron James, will come out of the gate. Expect to see ample load management games for James and possibly Anthony Davis as well. Are they still talented enough outside of those two guys to reach 49 wins this season?
Bringing up the rear are some familiar faces in the Cleveland Cavaliers (22) and the New York Knicks (22.5). The Knicks are an intriguing over bet. They finished with 21 wins in just 66 games last season and they improved the roster over the offseason. It’s also worth noting that Tom Thibodeau is considered among the best coaches in the league when it comes to game-planning and making in-game adjustments. They could be an easy over for bettors who aren’t afraid to put money down on the Knicks.
