Now that the lottery is over, betting on the NBA Draft is underway at DraftKings Sportsbook with odds on who the Minnesota Timberwolves will take first overall. There are three guys who stand out above the crowd, but there is no consensus on which of those three guys will go first.
Anthony Edwards (-143) is the odds-on favorite to go first overall and for good reason. The shooting guard has a ridiculous upside even though he was underwhelming at times during his freshman season at Georgia. Edwards put up 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game for the Bulldogs last year. NBA draft scouts are salivating over his elite athleticism and potential upside.
James Wiseman (+200) is the one big man with a great chance to go first in this year’s draft. Although his freshman season was cut short by an NCAA violation, that didn’t hurt his draft stock much. He’s a prototypical rim-running big man in the mold of Rudy Gobert, Clint Capela, and Mitchell Robinson.
LaMelo Ball (+480) is a big name with big talent. He’s the younger brother of former No. 2 draft pick Lonzo Ball, but he might end up one-upping his big brother. Ball’s had an unorthodox career to this point. His outspoken father pulled him out of high school to go pro in Lithuania and eventually made his way to the respectable National Basketball League in Australia. His shot still needs a ton of work, but he has incredible court vision which makes him the best passer in this draft class by far.
While the Timberwolves currently hold the first pick, there’s always the potential for a trade here. Since there’s no Zion Williamson in this year’s draft, it’s safe to assume all options are on the table for Minnesota.
