The NFL Rookie of the Year splits tell a very specific story. On one hand, the Offensive Rookie of the Year splits tell us that the public absolutely loves first-overall pick Joe Burrow. People expect Burrow to be the real deal after his magical Heisman season at LSU. The Tiger is heading up to Cincinnati to try and turn the Bengals around.

On the defensive side of the ball, bettors haven’t reached that kind of consensus. Six different players account for at least 6% of the NFL betting handle. Although Chase Young leads the pack, there is significant action on a few other guys.

Burrow enters the NFL with tons of hype. The Ohio native is returning to his home state and many believe he can be the guy to finally win a Super Bowl for Cincinnati. With all that said, there are other longshot options that bettors should consider.

There’s legitimate interest in Jonathan Taylor, a running back out of Wisconsin that the Indianapolis Colts took in the second round of the draft. CeeDee Lamb represents an enticing option at +2500. There are tons of playmakers who need touches in Dallas, but Lamb could benefit from teams loading up in the box to stop Ezekiel Elliot and sending double coverage at Amari Cooper.

Young, who went second overall behind Burrow, is an absolute beast who should be a day one contributor for the Washington Redskins. At 18% of all betting handle, Young is the safe bet to win Rookie of the Year, but he’s not a lock.

Isaiah Simmons fell a little bit in the draft, but he’s another guy who should come into the NFL and make an immediate impact. The versatile linebacker can play pretty much any position on the field and expect the Arizona Cardinals to use him as a Swiss army knife.

Patrick Queen and Xavier McKinney are two SEC products who bettors expect to play well. McKinney fell out of the first round entirely, but he’s joining a New York Giants defense that needs an identity. Perhaps he can change the attitude on that defense and win a Rookie of the Year in the process.
