The NFL is passing the halfway point of the season and Week 9 features games with major playoff implications. The opening lines and odds are out for next week even though there is still one game left to play in Week 8 — Monday Night Football between the Giants and Buccaneers.
It should come as no surprise that the Kansas City Chiefs are the biggest favorite of the week. They are opening as 10.5-point favorites against the Carolina Panthers. The Chiefs are coming into this game after laying two beatings down on the Broncos and the Jets. Kansas City is 6-2 against the spread this year and they have had no trouble covering huge spreads so far.
Speaking of the Jets, they are 7.5-point underdogs against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football this week. The winless Jets and the Patriots are at the bottom of the AFC East. Cam Newton and the Patriots have struggled to find their footing in 2020, but the Jets have a way of helping teams gain momentum.
New York has lost every game except one by two scores this year. In two years under head coach Adam Gase, they have more 20+ point losses than wins. Suffice to say, betting the Patriots at -7.5 seems like the right play.
Another interesting game to watch will be Saints vs. Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. Drew Brees and New Orleans are +4 despite taking down Tom Brady and the Bucs in Week 1.
