No. 1 Clemson will travel to South Bend, Indiana this weekend to take on No. 4 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish joined the ACC for one season and this game could determine who makes the ACC championship. The biggest storyline of this game surrounds a player who won’t even be playing — Trevor Lawrence.
This is the marquee game of Week 9 of the college football season. These are two teams with hopes of winning a National Championship when all is said and done. Let’s take a look at the best odds, lines, analysis, and everything else you need to know for Notre Dame vs. Clemson.
Notre Dame – Clemson 2020 Betting Line

Game Preview and Betting Angles
College football fans everywhere are being robbed of an opportunity to see Trevor Lawrence on the big stage. The Heisman Trophy hopeful will miss his second consecutive game after testing positive for COVID-19. The quarterback is said to be experiencing mild symptoms and of course, his health should come first.
Still, it would have been fun to see Lawrence playing in a matchup between two top-five teams. But the show must go on and D.J. Uiagalelei stepped up in a big way for Clemson this past Saturday. Boston College came out swinging and gave Clemson their best shot, but Uiagalelei made the big plays when the Tigers needed him most.
Down 28-10 in the second quarter, Uiagelelei led Clemson to 24 unanswered points en route to the win. The freshman quarterback threw for 342 yards, two touchdowns, and even ran one in for a score in the second half. To be clear, the loss of Lawrence is huge for the Tigers, but Uiagalelei’s play should give Clemson backers some confidence.
Although Notre Dame looks excellent this year, Clemson will be their first big test of the season. The Tigers will be the first ranked opponent the Fighting Irish will play in 2020. Blowing out teams like Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Florida State is one thing. Trying to upset Clemson — even without Lawrence — will be a much taller task.
Notre Dame is led by senior quarterback Ian Book who already has 12 total touchdowns on the season against just one interception. Book is a threat through the air and with his legs. He’s forming a dangerous duo with running back Kyren Williams. The sophomore has rushed for 600 yards and seven touchdowns in six games this season.
Despite the fact that these teams are a combined 13-0 this season, they have had trouble covering spreads. Clemson is 2-5 against the spread this year while Notre Dame is 2-4. With that said, both teams have been heavy favorites week in and week out. Just a few games ago, the Tigers were 46-point favorites against Syracuse. This will be the first time Notre Dame is an underdog all season.
Notre Dame vs. Clemson Historical Matchup
This will only be the fourth meeting all-time between these historic programs. Clemson has the edge with three wins and they emerged victorious in their latest meeting. In 2018, the Tigers stomped out the Fighting Irish 30-3 in the College Football Playoff. From start to finish, Clemson dominated in every facet of the game.
Trevor Lawrence threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns en route to the win. Running back Travis Ettiene also ran for 100 yards and a touchdown. Book couldn’t hang with Lawrence, only throwing for 160 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. But without Lawrence under center, this could be a much different game than we saw in 2018.

Betting Picks and Score Prediction
This game could have major implications on who makes the College Football Playoff out of the ACC. Notre Dame has an opportunity to steal a win and cement their place atop the conference, but don’t count out Clemson just because they won’t have Lawrence. Uiagalelei proved that he’s capable of putting up big numbers despite the fact that he’s a true freshman.
Notre Dame has struggled with weaker teams like Louisville and Duke this year. Outside of one bad half against Boston College, Clemson has looked incredible all year. Take Clemson laying the points.
