Heisman Trophy Odds Tracker: Caleb Williams stock rises in Oklahoma

Heisman Trophy Odds 2020

Betting on in-season futures can really give bettors an edge. Especially bettors that follow college football. One of the best betting markets to follow in all of sports is the Heisman Trophy. Each year there are a handful of favorites, but a few players seem to come out of nowhere to make a push for one of sports’ most vaunted trophies.

The most popular trophy in college football is of course the Heisman Trophy, which means that is without a doubt the most important player futures market available. Looking ahead to the 2022 college football season, it will certainly be a battle of the quarterbacks. Let’s take a look at possible candidates, odds, and updates for the 2022 Heisman Trophy betting market.

What are Caleb Williams Heisman odds?

It has been quite some time since we have seen a true freshman make an impact like Caleb Williams, but given his odds at +2500 in mid-October, there is a real chance he could slide into the Heisman Trophy race. Williams took over for Spencer Rattler, who was a Heisman hopful himself, and has dominated for Oklahoma. Williams has played (significantly) in two games against TCU and Texas, and the Sooner have scored 107 points in those contests. Williams has over 500 yards passing, six passing touchdowns, and has added 154 yards and two scores on the ground on just 13 carries. This kid is the real deal, and one to watch out for in the Heisman race.

Alabama vs. Ole Miss to decide Heisman Trophy favorite in October

The Week 5 matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Ole Miss Rebels decided a number of things. From the Heisman Trophy perspective, the winner of this game is the favorite as both quarterbacks are expected to play well. Matt Corral and Bryce Young are the two favorites at the top, and both players’ odds were so close. With this Week 5 showdown, it was a big one for the Heisman race. Here were some public betting odds from BetMGM, to show how close it was.

Heisman Trophy Odds News

Here is a look at some news and history from the offseason on this season’s Heisman Trophy odds, entering the season.

As season nears, Heisman Trophy odds shift

Just a week before the college football season began, the Heisman Trophy odds shifted dramatically at BetMGM Sportsbook. Here are the odds as of August 19th, a week before the season.

  • Spencer Rattler (+800)
  • Bryce Young (+1000)
  • DJ Uiagalelei (+1100)
  • JT Daniels (+1200)
  • Sam Howell (+1600)
  • CJ Stroud (+1600)
  • D’Eriq King (+2000)

This is much different than it was in early August, where Rattler was as high as +450. It is quite the close race as the season is set to begin, and will drastically change as the season goes on.

August camp opens, Rattler Heisman odds rise

As the 2021-2022 college football season gets closer and closer, more Heisman Trophy bets are being taken and there are shifts in the odds. As of August 5th, Spencer Rattler’s odds rose to +600. Here are the updated top 5:

  • Spencer Rattler (+600)
  • DJ Uiagalelei (+750)
  • Bryce Young (+900)
  • JT Daniels (+1200)
  • Sam Howell (+1400)

The changes from late July were Rattler rising from +650 to +600, but also Bryce Young falling to 9/1 from 8/1. This is notable as that means some money likely came in on Rattler, so the odds have shifted to center the market a bit more.

As the 2021 season nears, odds shift in Heisman Trophy market

In late July 2021, the odds have shifted a bit in terms of who will win the Heisman Trophy. At DraftKings Sportsbook, here are the prices in late July from DraftKings Sportsbook.

  • Spencer Rattler (+650)
  • DJ Uiagalelei (+750)
  • Bryce Young (+800)
  • JT Daniels (+1200)
  • Sam Howell (+1400)

One of the key parts of betting on futures is spotting value before the odds shift, and bettors have been watching these prices shift. While this year is overwhelmingly likely to be a quarterback, players like Bijan Robinson at +2800 or Master Teague III at +5000 make for interesting long shot options as the season nears.

Initial Public Betting Consensus: heavy money on Spencer Rattler

After the odds were posted, the first round of bets have more of the public money on Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler than any other quarterback.

Per our friends at William Hill, take a look at the betting splits for the Heisman Trophy. 17% of the total tickets are on Rattler at +350 at WH, and 20% of the overall money. At DraftKings Sportsbook, the odds are better for Rattler at +550.

Could Bryce Young Make a Heisman Run?

Yet again, another Alabama quarterback is in the running for a potential Heisman Trophy. This time, it is Bryce Young who may have the talent to be the best Alabama quarterback in recent years. That is saying a lot with Tua Tagavailoa and Mac Jones, but Young was just a freshman last season and was a five-star recruit. Plus, look at this throw in garbage time.

Young is third on the Heisman Trophy odds list, behind Rattler and Uiagalelei, but with a continued repertoire of wide receivers at his disposal along with a top-tier program, the Alabama quarterback is set for success in his first season as the starter. Time will tell if he is a true Heisman Trophy candidate, but it certainly looks like he will have a shot to compete for it.

Clemson’s D.J. Uiagalelei Odds Soar, Second on Odds List

Who is DJ Uiagalelei? If you do not know yet, you will this fall as Clemson’s latest five-star QB recruit takes over on offense. Uiagalelei is an absolute monster of a human being, drawing resemblances to Cam Newton with possibly an even stronger arm. Last season for Clemson, he threw 117 passes and completed 78 fo them for 914 yards and five scores while rushing for two more on the ground. Uiagalelei essentially started two games while Lawrence was out due to COVID, and threw for a total of 781 yards and four scores against Notre Dame and Boston College.

Clemson will likely not skip a beat, as Uiagalelei is just the latest star under center for the Tigers. His odds have risen to the second-shortest on DraftKings Sportsbook.
