The NBA season is in full swing and we are finally far enough into the season to have a conversation about this year’s MVP. PointsBet Sportsbook has LeBron James at the front of the pack right now, but Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, and Kevin Durant are just a few of the guys within striking distance.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has won the award the last two seasons, but there are a few guys in front of him right now. Voter fatigue is a real thing and even though Antetokounmpo is having another fantastic year, he’s a bit lower on the MVP odds right now.
PointsBet NBA MVP Odds
LeBron James +250
Joel Embiid +400
Nikola Jokic +500
Kevin Durant +800
Luka Doncic +900
Giannis Antetokounmpo +1200
Stephen Curry +1600
Damian Lillard +2500
Kawhi Leonard +3300
Anthony Davis +4000
Right now, LeBron James is the safe bet on PointsBet. He’s averaging 25.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game on 49/39/71 shooting splits. Even at the ripe old age of 36, LeBron is showing no signs of slowing down. The rest of the NBA is playing catch-up, but there is plenty of time for someone like Embiid, Jokic, Durant, or even Stephen Curry to make a push.
Embiid is having a career year in his first year with Doc Rivers at the helm in Philadelphia. Embiid’s 29.3 points per game would be a career-high. And it’s not increased volume that is padding Embiid’s stats. He’s shooting better from the field, the free-throw line, and the three-point line this year.
Jokic is having a spectacular season as well, but he builds his game around his playmaking ability. He’s the best passing big man in the NBA without a doubt, but he’s been forced to step up his scoring to carry the Nuggets for stretches this year.
Durant is another intriguing option, but he is unlikely to play enough games to bring home the MVP. He’s missed significant time due to health and safety protocols. Not to mention, he’s returning from a ruptured Achilles.
