With PGA back in full swing after the Charles Schwab Challenge, the next step on the PGA Tour is the RBC Heritage. Originally scheduled for mid-April, the RBC Heritage will be played in June in 2020, and a full slate of golfers is expected. With the major professional sports not coming back for a few weeks at the earliest, PGA betting has become the forefront of the legal sports betting space. The RBC Heritage is no exception, with promotions, betting odds, and various markets for sports bettors to wager on. Let’s take a look.

RBC Heritage Golf Picks 2020

After a stellar start to the PGA Tour’s return with the Charles Schwab Challenge, the action returns on Thursday with the RBC Heritage. The DraftKings Sportsbook has released their odds with a number of ways to bet on this event, including the outright winner, which will be the focus of this article. When odds were released, the top-three favorites were listed as:

Rory Mcllroy (+1100)
Bryson DeChambeau (+1400)
Justin Thomas (+1600)

Top 6 Leaderboard Last Week (Odds)

These three will of course be popular options for bettors alike but our focus here will be on some of the potential big ROI players you could consider. If we look at the results of the Charles Schwab Challenge, six players finished in the top three and while Daniel Berger, who opened at +3500, took down the event. Here are how the six players finished along with their opening odds:

1. Daniel Berger (+3500)
2. Collin Morikawa (+2800)
3. Jason Korak (+500)
3.   Bryson DeChambeau (+1100)
3.   Xander Schauffele (+2000)
3.   Justin Rose (+3500)

LONGSHOT ROI PICKS FOR RBC HERITAGE

Let’s take a look at some value players you can take a shot with ahead of Thursday’s RBC Heritage event.

Matt Kuchar (+4000)

It’s hard not to like Kuchar in this spot at the RBC Heritage. He’s had an immense amount of success at this event and has missed the cut only once back in 2003. When it comes to accolades, he’s won this event in 2014 and has six top 10s overall. He will be entering this week on a sour note, however, as he missed the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge posting a 71 in round one and a 68 in round two.

Kuchar is more familiar with this course than anyone, as his 60 rounds played is tops amongst all the golfers. Stewart Cink is second on the list with 56 followed by Lucas Glover with 52. Kuchar has gained 1.76 strokes per round here at Harbour Town, which is the third-best mark amongst the players who have the most rounds played here. Luke Donald, with 44 rounds is at 2.16 and Jim Furyk is at 1.9.

Branden Grace (+5500)

Grace posted a strong start during the Charles Schwab Challenge, although you’d never know it from his final spot on the leaderboard at 19. From Thursday to Saturday, Grace posted three straight rounds of 66, before ended with a 73 in Round 4. He particularly struggled in the back nine, which ultimately lead to his quick demise on the final day.

Despite his late struggles, Grace has done well at the RBC Heritage, winning the event back in 2016. Back at that event, Grace started off off with a strong 66 in round one, struggled big time in round two with a 74 and then closed out the event in the final two rounds with a 69 and a 66 to take down the title. He’s played 16 rounds at Harbour Town and has gained 1.84 strokes per round. At his current odds, Grace at 55-1 look quite enticing, especially if he can find his form from early on at Charles Schwab.

C.T. Pan (+60000)

The defending champ didn’t have a great start to the return of the PGA Tour, missing the cut at Charles Schwab. Pan had a stellar final round last year, as his 67 put him 12 under and one stroke ahead of Kuchar. At Harbour Town, Pan has played 12 rounds and has gained 1.7 strokes per round. Amongst the field, that’s the 10th best mark overall but fifth best amongst players who have at least 10 rounds under their belt. His odds certainly classify him as a long shot but no one would fault you for putting some money down on the defending champion in this spot.

Who is the Public Betting On?

Here’s the top ten most bet golfers to win the RBC Heritage tournament:

Brooks Koepka (+4500): 6% handle, 4% bets
Bryson DeChambeau (+1400): 6% handle, 5% bets
Justin Thomas (+1600): 6% handle, 4% bets
Webb Simpson (+3000): 5% handle, 4% bets

Previous RBC Heritage Winners

Year RBC Heritage Winner
2019 C.T. Pan
2018 Satoshi Kodaira
2017 Wesley Bryan
2016 Branden Grace
2015 Jim Furyk
2014 Matt Kuchar
2013 Graeme McDowell
2012 Carl Pettersson
2011 Brant Snedeker
2010 Jim Furyk

In the last 10 RBC Heritage tournaments, the only multiple-time winner is Jim Furyk. He won in 2010 and again in 2015. Patterns would indicate he could win again in 2020, but that’s quite unlikely. This year’s RBC Heritage will be much different given that it will be the second tournament after the coronavirus pandemic, so the field could be much more loaded.

RBC Heritage Betting History

The RBC Heritage has seen plenty of golf history, including name changes with different sponsors and more. Let’s take a look at some of the history.

  • In 1969, the purse was $100,000. It was called the “Heritage Classic”.
  • In 2019, the purse was $6,900,000.
  • Since 2012, the RBC Heritage has been sponsored by Boeing.
  • The longest tournament was in 2004, where 77 holes were played (playoffs)
  • The highest score by a winner was 283, as Arnold Palmer shot in 1969.
  • The lowest score in tournament history was Brian Gay with a 264 in 2009.
  • C.T. Pan won in 2019, and earned $1,242,000 in prize money after shooting a 272 (-12)

In 2019, the top five in terms of odds to win the RBC Heritage were:

  • Dustin Johnson (+700)
  • Francesco Molinari (+1400)
  • Bryson DeChambeau (+1800)
  • Xander Schauffele (+1800)
  • Jordan Spieth (+2000)

The winner, C.T. Pan, was +12800 to win. A $10 bet would have awarded $1280 to winning bettors in 2019.
