For the fiscal year of 2019, which began on July 1, Rhode Island expected to collect around $23.5 million in revenue. However, that figure is now up in the air after legalized sports betting began later than expected. According to the state’s fiscal year 2019 budget, here’s a breakdown of revenue percentages:
State: 51 percent
IGT: 32 percent
Casinos: 17 percent
IGT was the only sports betting vendor to reply to RI’s request for sports betting implementation. The lack of enthusiasm by the industry was due to online and mobile wagering NOT being included in the legislation for legal sports betting.
IGT and the Rhode Island Lottery signed a 20-year deal with the state back 2003 to be its gaming provider and “rights to be the exclusive provider of information technology hardware, software, and related services for all Rhode Island.
