Despite the NFL Draft being just a few weeks away, trades are being made that will affect the outcome of the draft. The latest is the New York Jets trading their former first-round pick Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers, which puts them in the drivers seat to take a quarterback second overall.

Let’s take a look at this quarterback trade, which has affected the NFL Draft betting market, as there is some value to be had for the Jets’ second overall pick.

Jets to Draft Zach Wilson? Darnold Traded to Carolina

With news of Sam Darnold being traded to the Panthers, the Jets are certainly going to draft a quarterback now.

This news means a few things when it comes to betting on the NFL Draft. The first being the betting market for the second overall pick. Currently at DraftKings Sportsbook, Zach Wilson is -1000 to be selected and Justin Fields is +1000. At FanDuel Sportsbook, Justin Fields’ odds are already up to +700. Without a doubt, this means the Jets will be taking a QB if they draft second overall…but the question is exactly who. Wilson is the favorite, but odds have plenty of time to move before the NFL Draft takes place in late April.

Who will the Panthers draft?

This is the second question, as the Panthers spent significant draft capital of a 2022 second-rounder, a fourth, and a sixth rounder to acquire Sam Darnold. This means they will likely not take a quarterback (assuming all stays the same) for their spot in the NFL Draft.

Trey Lance was seen as a favorite to be selected by the Panthers, but with draft capital already invested in the quarterback position could the Panthers increase their skill positions with a receiver or tight end? Will they be going with a lineman? This draft has certainly been shaken up by this move, so be sure to keep an eye on the odds movement for the NFL Draft betting markets.
