One of the true entertainers in the sports industry has taken his talents to making picks on his “SportsCenter” segments each week. Everyone is a fan of Scott Van Pelt, and he does a “bad beats” segment that is one of the most entertaining segments on ESPN. In addition, SVP is back with his “winners” segment for the 2020 season, and he is making picks for both CFB and the NFL. Here is a look at his picks for Week 1 of the NFL, Week 2 of college football, and a look at his record from last season. We will cover SVP’s picks each and every week, and provide updates on his record as the seasons move on. Let’s dive in.
SVP College Football Picks – Week 2
Western Kentucky's Charles Bassey (knee) has been fully cleared and went through full contact drills today, per a school spokesman.

- Western Kentucky +11.5 vs. Louisville
Scott Van Pelt’s second pick of the 2020 CFB season is Western Kentucky +11.5 against the Louisville Cardinals. With Charles Bassey playing and getting a ton of points (nearly two touchdowns), SVP believes in the Hilltoppers to compete against the Cardinals. With a limited selection of college football games in 2020, expect SVP to choose from mid-majors and focus on the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 with the lack of the B1G and PAC12 for the time being.
Scott Van Pelt NFL Picks – Atlanta +2.5
The Seahawks made it look easy on this first half drive against the Falcons last year. 6 plays, 59 yards and capped off by a 4 yard touchdown pass to DK Metcalf pic.twitter.com/smCEf4wuwy

- Atlanta Falcons +2.5 vs. Seattle Seahawks
Despite DK Metcalf’s touchdown last season, Scott Van Pelt is a big fan of the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 of the NFL season, as he has picked them at +2.5 agains the Seattle Seahawks. The Atlanta Falcons have new running back Todd Gurley to add to an already loaded offense focused around Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Calvin Ridley. The Seahawks will look to ride the tails of Russell Wilson again in 2020, but this time he has weapons around him. From DK Metcalf to Tyler Lockett, the receiving group is healthy with a trio of solid tight ends. In addition, the running backs include Chris Carson and some complementary backs the give Wilson and the Seahawks a chance to pound the football.
SVP likes Atlanta +2.5 at home, which makes sense based on SVP’s love for taking home underdogs last year and in previous seasons with his “Winners” segment. Here is to 1-0 for SVP in 2020.

On last week’s version of the SVP picks, Scott went 0-1. He is set to improve, as there is no way to go but up, right? Here is a look at SVP’s history from last season.
- 42-53
- Struggled with CFB and NFL
- Repeatedly said “We are a week away from being a week away”
While SVP has never touted himself as an elite handicapper, if you faded him all season last year it turned a bit of a profit as he will joke about himself about.
