Betting on the Super Bowl has become a tradition in legal sports betting states, and with more and more joining the party it is becoming massively popular. But, it’s no longer just betting on spreads and totals. In fact, legal sportsbook apps in Indiana just approved crazy types of prop bets in 2020 before last year’s Super Bowl. Of course, you can wager on Super Bowl MVP and game props, but what about non-football betting props?
Betting on fun Super Bowl props such as the national anthem, commercials, and more. One of the most popular non-football props is what color will the Gatorade shower be for the winning head coach. With two teams having red in their color scheme again in Super Bowl 55, will red end up as the betting favorite? Time will tell, but let’s get into it as there are some props released for this market.
Super Bowl 55 Gatorade Color Prop Bets
For Super Bowl 55, the Gatorade shower props are released and ready to be wagered on. Last year, it was available at many legal sportsbooks. The first to market for Super Bowl 55 Gatorade props was PointsBet, who has released the following odds for Gatorade color on their platform. BetMGM Sportsbook also hopped in on the Gatorade prop market, and DraftKings Sportsbook added their odds in the week leading up to the Super Bowl.
DraftKings Sportsbook Gatorade Color Odds
It’s been nearly 40 years since the tradition of dousing the winning coach with Gatorade, and DraftKings Sportsbook hops in on the prop betting action for this year’s Super Bowl. Here is a look at the odds, which will change leading up to kickoff on Sunday. Orange is certainly the favorite across nearly all books, and DraftKings has it as well at a price of +125.
- Orange (+125)
- Red (+200)
- Yellow/Green/Lime (+300)
- Clear/Wager (+350)
- Blue (+700)
- Purple (+800)
Another way to think about this wager, if you believe the Chiefs will win and have the same color Gatorade as last year when they won, that color was orange. Orange is +125, and the Chiefs moneyline is -159. That is value, now only to figure out if the Chiefs will have the same color Gatorade…
Plus, the Bucs could also have orange as well but if you believe the Bucs will have red Gatorade that price is +200.
BetMGM Gatorade Color Odds
The great folks at BetMGM Sportsbook have provided odds on the color of the Gatorade dumped on the winning coach for Super Bowl LV. Here’s a look at the opening odds.
- Orange (+140)
- Red/Pink (+300)
- Yellow/Green/Lime (+500)
- Clear/Grey/White (+650)
- Blue (+800)
- Purple/Indigo/Violet (+800)
Note: Regulators have approved this prop bet in Indiana, New Jersey, West Virginia. It is not approved in Colorado, Iowa, Mississippi, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, or Virginia. Michigan is to be determined.
Which Color is the Public Betting On at BetMGM?
How the public is betting on a prop is very interesting, especially when it’s a fun one such as the color of the Gatorade dumped on the winning coach. Here’s some public betting information from BetMGM Sportsbook.
“Casual fans might think the action on the Super Bowl ends when the game is over but many bettors will be sweating the color of the Gatorade dumped on the winning coach. Orange is the betting favorite and has received 30% of the handle.” – Darren Darby, Sports Trader, BetMGM
PointsBet Gatorade Super Bowl Odds
Odds courtesy of PointsBet Sportsbook.
Orange is the favorite at +125 with red just behind it at +250. Orange is favored since Andy Reid had that color poured on him in last year’s celebration, and the Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl. Red is also a great price because both teams (yet again) have red in their primary colors as the Bucs/Chiefs share similar color schemes. Last year, purple closed as the heavy favorite before the game but that type of Gatorade comes in at +1000 at PointsBet.

For last year’s Super Bowl, the favorite for Gatorade opened as red at +150, for obvious reasons. The Chiefs and Niners both have red as a key color in their teams’ schemes, but orange was just behind red at +300. This year, the early favorite is orange at +125, but will that move as bets come in?
Last year just before game-time, the Gatorade bath odds changed as detailed here by David Purdum. Keep an eye out for movement, as purple became the favorite late.

Gatorade Shower History – Orange Leads the Way
Is there research to be done on this prop? Is there an edge to be gained? Let’s take a look at the recent history of Gatorade showers on head coaches since 2010:
The last 11 Super Bowls of data has not been as mixed a bag as you may believe.
- 5 Orange Gatorade Showers
- 2 Blue Gatorade Showers
- 2 “None”
- 1 Yellow Gatorade Shower
- 1 Purple Gatorade Shower
Without a doubt, “Orange” is the favorite based on history of the last 11 years, and that led to a successful wager in 2020 as Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid was doused in orange Gatorade last year. The above video shows plenty of orange Gatorade baths, and with the Chiefs back in the Super Bowl this year it fully explains why Orange is yet again the betting favorite at +125 at PointsBet.
