The NBA is back and even though Monday’s slate of games won’t count towards anyone’s record, but it’s a chance to see which teams have regained their rhythm. With scrimmages winding down, this is our last look at teams before the real thing begins. Monday’s games begin this afternoon with the shorthanded Washington Wizards taking on the vaunted Los Angeles Lakers.
Monday’s NBA Scrimmage Schedule (Orlando Bubble)
Washington Wizards vs. Los Angeles Lakers, 3:00 p.m. ET
Sacramento Kings vs. Los Angeles Clippers, 4:00 p.m. ET
Utah Jazz vs. Brooklyn Nets, 5:30 p.m. ET
Orlando Magic vs. Denver Nuggets, 7:00 p.m. ET
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Milwaukee Bucks, 8:00 p.m. ET
Again, these games are meaningless, but there are some intriguing matchups to keep an eye on. The aforementioned Lakers are always a big draw. LeBron James and company were the favorites in the Western Conference before the coronavirus shutdown. Can they find that spark in the bubble?
Their biggest rival out west — the Los Angeles Clippers — will face the Sacramento Kings, but they’ll be missing a key player. Reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams left the bubble for personal reasons and was spotted getting chicken wings at a strip club. As a result, he’ll have to quarantine for 10 days before he can take the floor again. In fact, Williams will miss seeding games due to this quarantine.
The Denver Nuggets are another team to watch. Mike Malone recently put out a lineup with all centers and forwards, a response to “small ball.” Nikola Jokic was playing point guard despite the fact that he’s listed as a center.
The night finishes with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks squaring off against the New Orleans Pelicans. Unfortunately, Zion Williamson won’t be cleared from quarantine in time to face off against Antetokounmpo. Williamson left the bubble to attend to a personal matter and needs to finish up a four-day quarantine before he’s cleared to play again.
