The Kentucky Derby is taking place at a different time of year than we’re used to seeing, but it’s happening. Like most American sports, horse racing had to significantly alter the schedule due to COVID-19. As a result, the Kentucky Derby is the second leg of the Triple Crown.
Tiz The Law is the early favorite to win the Kentucky Derby after taking home The Belmont in impressive fashion. Despite this year’s strange schedule, Tiz The Law is having an incredible season. In addition to his win in The Belmont, the horse has wins in the Holy Bull Stakes, Curlin Florida Derby, and the Runhappy Travers Stakes.
Top Favorites to win the Kentucky Derby
Simply put, you would be hard-pressed to find another horse that’s running as well as Tiz The Law in 2020.
Art Collector is just behind Tiz The Law at 9-2 odds after winning the Runhappy Ellis Park Derby earlier in August. In addition to that win, Art Collector has a first-place finish at Keeneland this season as well.
It’s going to be hard to bet against these two favorites, but it’s wise to expect the unexpected in 2020. With the horse racing season undergoing so many radical changes, it’s unclear if the changes to the schedule will affect any of the horses. While Tiz The Law and Art Collector seem like the safe bets, Honor AP (6-1) and Authentic (8-1) are both expected to be in the mix.
The Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, Sept. 5 with the Preakness set for Saturday, Oct. 5 to close out this year’s Triple Crown.
