One of the more polarizing prospects for this year’s NFL Draft is former Alabama star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. After a horrible hip injury suffered in 2019, some wondered if he would be ready to play in 2020 or if he would return to college. In what seems to be a miraculously fast recovery, Tagovailoa is on pace to be ready for the start of the 2020 NFL Season, assuming he is named a starter for whichever NFL teams drafts him in April. There are injury concerns for sure, but the talent is something that many are not disputing.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, there are plenty of betting markets that surround the former Alabama quarterback and bettors can wager on all of them.

First Overall Pick
The consensus is that Joe Burrow will be the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft, as his odds are -10000. You can bet Tua’s odds at +2500 here if you believe the former Alabama star can leap Burrow and go first overall. Tua’s odds have fallen from what was +1600, all the way down to +2500, which is tied with Justin Herbert.
Second Overall Pick
Chase Young is expected to be selected second overall, as he is -2000 in this market, up from -305. But the player with the second-best odds is Tua Tagovailoa at +1000. Could another team trade up and select Tua second? Time will tell, but there is some growing momentum behind that scenario, but it may not be second overall.
First Quarterback Drafted
With Joe Burrow having overwhelming odds to be first overall, he also has high odds of being the first quarterback selected at -10000. Tagovailoa is set at +800 to be the first quarterback drafted, though. Not as long as we may have thought.
Second Quarterback Drafted
Tua is the clear favorite in this market, as he currently sits at -286 to be the second quarterback drafted. After him is Justin Herbert at +180. The Redskins or Dolphins make the most sense, barring trades here. Tua’s odds as the second quarterback drafted fell from -400.
Third Quarterback Drafted
If by some chance Tua Tagovailoa is not the second quarterback drafted, bettors can wager on him being the third at +225. This fell from +500, which means Justin Herbert could be flying up some draft boards leading up to the NFL Draft.
Second Offensive Player Drafted
There is very little doubt that Joe Burrow will be the first offensive player drafted, which makes Tua Tagovailoa a -110 favorite to be the second offensive player drafted. He is ahead of offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs and quarterback Justin Herbert at +500, respectively.
Tua Tagovailoa NFL Draft Specials
At DraftKings Sportsbook, there is a betting market on where bettors can select where they believe Tagovailoa will play in 2020. Here’s a quick look at the top 10 teams in terms of those odds.
|Team||Odds to Draft Tua Tagovailoa|
|Los Angeles Chargers||+150|
|New England Patriots||+1600|
|Las Vegas Raiders||+3300|
|New Orleans Saints||+5000|
Tua Over-Under NFL Draft Position
The player draft position markets will be a lot of fun, as there are dozens of players that will have a simple number that is a bet. Tua Tagovailoa’s “player draft position” was set at:
- Over 3.5 (-200)
- Under 3.5 (+160)
This certainly means that most expect Tua to go after third overall in the NFL Draft, but the Lions are currently drafting in that spot. Does that mean a trade is coming? We shall see. In any event, Tagovailoa is likely to be picked very early in this year’s NFL Draft. This prop has been taken off the board as of early April.
Which Team Will Draft Tua Tagovailoa?
What do you think about this #WallpaperWednesday, Miami Dolphins fans?
— The Draft Network (@TheDraftNetwork) March 25, 2020
That image just seems to fit, doesn’t it? The Miami Dolphins are the current favorites to select Tua Tagovailoa in April’s NFL Draft, as the odds are at -150 and Miami does need a quarterback. With that being said, they own the fifth overall selection so they either may need to move up or hope another team does not trade ahead of them for the left-handed star. The Dolphins have Jordan Howard, DeVante Parker, Preston Williams, Albert Wilson and Mike Gesicki which is an underrated slew of weapons. Now, they just need a young field general to get them the ball. Tua makes too much sense, the Dolphins just may have to go get him.

A ton of NFL Draft information is leaked during the weeks leading up to the event, so it is important to gauge smoke and mirrors. It has been reported that former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa scored a “19” on his wonderlic test, which is below average per the above tweet and various reports. Some are quite worried about this score, but is it worth worrying about?
As Paul Hembekides eludes, it does not indicate future success. Dan Marino, Terry Bradshaw, and Jim Kelly are all among some of the better quarterbacks to ever play the game. Blaine Gabbert, Matt Leinart, and Johnny Manziel are not. There is no direct correlation here, but this is just one more thing that could be added as a “knock” against Tagovailoa. Some teams have reported his hip injury is concerning, and some have reportedly dropped him off their board entirely. Is this all smoke and mirrors? We will see on Thursday night, as the NFL Draft begins on April 23rd.
