With the 2020-21 NBA season right around the corner (it definitely feels weird saying that at the beginning of December), DraftKings Sportsbook has released the odds for this season’s Eastern Conference champion. While the Miami Heat emerged victoriously in this past season’s Eastern Conference Finals, things could certainly change this year with Kevin Durant finally set to make his debut with the Brooklyn Nets.

The public seemingly understands that, considering 35% of bettors chose them to win the conference — the highest percentage of bettors for any team in the East.

While the Nets possess the highest percentage of bets, they’re actually second in terms of the odds. The Giannis Antetokounmpo-led Milwaukee Bucks are favored to win the conference outright at +230 but are only responsible for 13% of the bets and 4% of the handle.

Sure, the Bucks have been the East’s No. 1 seed in each of the last two seasons, but they’ve undergone a difficult time putting it all together in the playoffs. They lost in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals and then in this past season’s Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Along with the Nets, the public additionally loves the Philadelphia 76ers, led by Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. While they’re second in terms of percentage of bets (25%), they’re in the top spot for the handle percentage (42%). However, they’re another team that has struggled to make it through the Eastern Conference Playoffs, losing in the first round this past season and then in the semifinals the year prior.

The Knicks are also on the above list, surprisingly. Despite the fact that they’re +20000 to win the East, they’re responsible for 1% of the handle and 3% of the total bets.

Sorry, Knicks bettors. Obi Toppin is a great player, but I don’t think he’s going to propel his team to the NBA Finals.
