The 2020 MLB season appears to be a go. Commissioner Rob Manfred is “implementing” a season and asking players to report to camp by July 1 — so long as the two sides can agree on health and safety protocols. The deal isn’t signed sealed and delivered yet, but it looks like we’re close.
With a season upon us, bettors can look to the 2020 World Series odds for some action. The shortened season leaves little room for error for teams. A slow start or a prolonged slump could sink the best of teams. Under normal circumstances, an MLB betting season is like a marathon, but the 2020 season is going to be more like an all-out sprint.

Where’s The Value?
Bet A Frontrunner
Despite the abbreviated season, there’s a reason teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, and Astros are ahead of the pack. These three teams are stacked from top to bottom and the shortened season shouldn’t stop any of these teams from making the postseason.
Middle Of The Pack
There are a few ways bettors could go for value in the “middle of the pack” teams. The Mets (+2200) have the best pitcher in baseball — Jacob deGrom — and a solid rotation backing him up (even with Noah Syndergaard out for Tommy John surgery). Although somewhat top-heavy, the offense is good enough to win games behind the starting pitching. Once the postseason arrives, the Mets could be a legitimate threat to win it all.
Rather than go with pitching, bettors can find value in teams with MVP talent in the middle of the order. Players like Bryce Harper, Christian Yelich, and Mike Trout are capable of carrying a team in a shortened season. As a result, the Phillies (+2000), Brewers (+3000), and Angels (+3300) all represent solid options for bettors.
Bettors are taking a chance by foregoing one of the “frontrunners” for a “middle of the pack” team. Anyone putting money down on one of these “long shots” is just praying for some wackiness in the 2020 World Series. Even in a shortened season, these kinds of teams are fighting an uphill battle.
Bettors can use the same logic they would use for a team like the Brewers or Angels for the Rockies (+15000). Colorado’s pitching is suspect, but Nolan Arenado is an absolute stud and Charlie Blackmon is one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball. Riding Colorado’s offense isn’t the worst idea in the world.
On the flipside, bettors could opt to throw some money down on an unproven young team like the Toronto Blue Jays. Vlad Guerrero Jr., Cavan Biggio, and Bo Bichette make up one of the most exciting young infields in baseball. If they heat up and gain momentum, perhaps they could announce themselves as contenders a year or two early.
