Zion Williamson is back in the bubble as the New Orleans Pelicans prepare for the 2020 NBA restart. Obviously, his exit from the bubble to attend to a family matter sent shockwaves through the NBA. Would he be able to make it back in time to pass quarantine for the restart?
That question was answered over the weekend. Williamson returned to the bubble and has now cleared his four-day quarantine. In other words, he’s able to rejoin the Pelicans prior to the NBA’s opening game on Thursday night.
Pelicans forward Zion Williamson will have a four-day quarantine that began on Friday night, NBA says. He is set to be cleared to rejoin Pelicans ahead of Thursday’s opener against Utah.

Pelicans vs. Jazz Odds Thursday July 30th
Although the Pelicans are on the outside looking in on the playoff picture right now, they are one of the trendy picks to nab the eight seed in the Western Conference. Without Zion Williamson, a playoff spot looked like a longshot. As it stands, the Pelicans are +400 to make the playoffs. They currently trail the eighth-place Memphis Grizzlies in the standings, but they have eight games to make up that distance.
New Orleans is currently a -1.5 to -2.5 point favorite over the Jazz Thursday, with the over-under set at 220.5 points per DraftKings Sportsbook.
Considering that Pelicans are within four games of the eighth seed, they’ll have the opportunity to make a run at the playoffs in a play-in tournament. If Williamson is able to hit the ground running upon his return, the Pels have a great shot at making some noise. How are the NBA betting odds looking as the league inches closer to the restart?
Pelicans Odds To Make NBA Playoffs
|Team||Make Playoff||Miss Playoff|
|New Orleans Pelicans||+400||-670|
|Portland Trail Blazers||+350||-590|
|San Antonio Spurs||+1300||-10000|
Although the Pelicans have solid odds to make the playoffs, they aren’t really a viable NBA Finals contender. Bettors will have to look elsewhere for that. The Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers are the three favorites. The Houston Rockets are another team in the mix and bettors who are looking for value could take a chance on the small-ball squad.
